All-Ireland Primary School’s Badminton Final
We had a wonderful day in Baldoyle in Dublin, when we competed in the All-Ireland Primary School’s Badminton Competition. We left at 6 a.m. and returned at 10 p.m. tired but happy.
Santa is on his Way to Lyre

Breaking News: Miss Duggan received a very important telephone call from the North Pole this morning. Santa himself was on the line. He told her that he would be dropping off quite a number of presents in Lyre to all the children who are on his “nice” list. He wants the boys and girls to be extra good over the next few days at home.
Funky Hair Day

Well done to all the boys and girls who raised €500 for Cork’s 96fm Giving for Living Radiothon. They held a ‘Funky Hair’ Day and brought in donations. The hairstyles were wonderful as was the generosity of all our families. The money has been forwarded to the Mercy Hospital Cork, where it will go towards helping those fighting cancer.
Energy Green Flag

Congratulations to the Green School Committee under the guidance of Mrs. Roche, who ensured that our school was awarded a second Green Flag on the theme of Energy. The presentation ceremony will be held on May 11th in the Radisson Hotel in Little Island. Well done everyone!
Our New Resources

These are our new resources which we purchased with the funds raised from our Neven Maguire Cookery Demonstration. Thank you to the organising committee and to everyone who supported us. The children are delighted with the new resources.

We received the Irish Tricolour at our school as part of the Centenary celebrations of the Easter Rising of 1916. Sergeant Christopher Hoare and Gunner Mark Coffey of Collins Barracks in Cork presented Noah Walsh of 6th Class with the flag. Shannon O’Shaughnessy (6th Class) helped to read The Proclamation of 1916 and Michelle O’Keeffe (6th Class) read a poem entitled ‘The Toast’ All pupils then played and sang The National Anthem. Thanks to Sgt. Hoare and Gunner Coffey for answering all our questions and to the Parents Association for the wonderful refreshments.

Lyre Triumph At Credit Union Quiz

Congratulations and well done to Ryan O’Dwyer, Emma Healy, Katie O’Connor and Michael Twomey who won the Under-11 competition at the Credit Union Quiz last Friday night in Kanturk. In total 23 teams competed in this category. They will now progress to the Chapter Final which will be held over the coming weeks. Best of luck to them.
Child Protection Audit

At their Board Meeting in November, the Board of Management completed the Annual Child Protection Audit. This involved a review of current practices and policies regarding Child Protection Procedures in Scoil Fhursa. The Board of Management wishes to make parents aware that the guidelines issued to schools in relation to the protection of our pupils from all forms of abuse are being adhered to in Scoil Fhursa
